STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESSFUL READING:
 1.  Make connections with what you already know.
 2.  Ask yourselves questions as you read.
3.  Think about what's important from the selection.  4.   Create mental images - picture what is happening in the text.
5. Make predictions about what might happen next as you are reading.
6.  Summarize the text in your own words as you are reading.
7.  Solve problems with the text when needed.  When good readers cannot understand something, they take special steps to figure it out.

Words - wonderful, magical, mystical words!  We will read them, write them, and learn to love them.  In fifth grade language class, students will experience spelling, grammar, and various types of writing styles. In reading, fifth graders will study fascinating literature and develop successful reading strategies.
