Welcome to 4th Grade Math !!
I am excited about this school year. We have so much to do and alot of great resources to use. We will be using CScope ~ our curriculum guide as well as HSP, our newly adopted textbook. This textbook is great!! It has wonderful technology that you can access at home to help you out and let your child play games on for more practice. Please check out our daily routine, homework policy as well as grading policies below. My lesson plans are posted weekly so you can always know what we are working on in class.
Daily Routine
Every class period begins with two or three word problems that we call our PROBLEM SOLVING. We work on breaking down our word problems by Operation, Method, Number Sentence, and Answer. We call this our OMNA (Old Monkeys Never Attack).
We continue our class period with a REVIEW of some kind of concepts and material that we have already covered is school year, but need to keep remembering and practicing.
We finish the first half of our class with our FACTS PRACTICE. We have found that most of the math concepts in 4th grade revolve around multiplication and division facts, including conversions, area, perimeter, word problems, equivalent fractions and more. Every Friday we will have a FACT QUIZ.
We finish class covering our CONCEPT for the day.
Homework
We do not usually have homework daily, but there is a homework packet due on Thursdays that goes home with the Friday packet. It is a few pages of review questions that will help your child remember the concepts that we have learned and give them some additional practice.
Grading Policy
Daily Assignments and Homework 20%
Quizzes 20%
TESTS 60%
Late homework will be deducted 20 points for the first day that it is late. Work turned in two days late will have 25 points taken off. Work turned in 3 days late will have 30 points taken off. After the 4th day, the assignment will be given a zero.
TIPS for helping your child
Practice multiplication facts whenever you can ~ the car is a great time to work on this.
Check your child's weekly homework and talk to them about what they are studying.
Read the Teaming Tidbits weekly newsletter to see when tests are coming up.
Let your child practice on www.arcademicskillbuilders.com.
